In GOD's own country
Today I join Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management - Kerala (IIITMK) at Trivandrum. Beautiful place, cute office, nice people. In less than an hour I had all my formalities over and was also given an IBM Thinkpad laptop and connection to the net. Wishh all institutions in India work like this.
Hope to achieve a lot in this place.

Another milestone
Partha will soon be moving to God's own country -- Kerala. Will work for IIIT Kerala. This is a small but very famous institute for information technology. Visit my other blog at profpartha.mindsay.com for details.

I just came to learn something awesome about a friend of mine.
J Sifakis was a friend and my senior colleague at INPG Grenoble where I went to do my doctorate. He did his "these d'etat" in 1979, just a year before me. He was a real bright guy. But I did'nt know then how bright he really was.
A few days ago, while scanning the web I came across this incredibly big news. Sifakis was awarded the Turing Award for 2007 by ACM. the Turing Award is like the Nobel Prize. There is no Nobel for Computer Science. Turing Award is the Nobel of computer science.
It gives a great feeling to recall that I worked, lived, walked with great scientists like Sifakis.

Our city has a new airport from today. Time to rejoice ? Sadly, NO.
The earlier airport (Begumpet) was almost at our backyard -- it was a mere 10 minute drive from home.
Now the new airport (Shamshabad) will be 60 kilometres from home, and will
require a 2 hour drive through some of the crowdest part of the city.
Those of you who are planning to fly down to Hyderabad, india, remember this new development.
Progress can sometimes be a disadvantage.
